The incumbent will serve as a change agent for the EVP/Dean and the BSD in advancing the performance of academic research and educational mission. Twelve Nobel Prize winners in physiology or medicine have been affiliated with the BSD. UChicago scientists and physicians have been pioneers and leaders in many important fields of scientific investigation, including cancer, digestive diseases, evolutionary biology, paleontology, diabetes, organ transplantation, and sleep research. UCM and the BSD are consistently recognized for groundbreaking research, excellence in medical education, complex medical care, and scientific innovation. The BSD is home to faculty in 10 basic science and 14 clinical departments, ranging from Ecology & Evolution and Human Genetics to Medicine, Surgery, and Pediatrics. The Vice Dean of Administration and Finance has direct oversight of the financial operations, budgets as well as facilities planning and management, human resources, information services and faculty compensation. The Vice Dean reports to the EVP/Dean and serves as the EVP/Dean’s senior advisor and partner in the direct oversight of the BSD academic research and PSOM administrative matters.Īs a member of the EVP/Dean’s senior leadership team, the Vice Dean oversees the strategic financial and administrative planning, budget development and implementation, policy formulation and organizational development, deployment of resources and ensures proper operations and administrative systems are in place to foster the academic/research growth, efficiency, recruitment and retention of faculty, and financial strength of the BSD. The Vice Dean is the chief administrative officer of the BSD, responsible for all financial functions supporting academic units and ensuring a sound administrative infrastructure is in place that effectively supports its academic research and educational mission. These organizations are led by Mark Anderson, MD, PhD, Dean of the Biological Sciences Division and the Pritzker School of Medicine, and Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs at UChicago (EVP/Dean). UCM includes the flagship CCD hospital (Center for Care and Discovery) that is consistently ranked among the best hospitals in the nation by U.S. The PSOM is dedicated to medical education, and the BSD is committed to research, education, and training in the basic biological sciences and clinical disciplines.
